It is to no one’s surprise that last year the real estate market took a bit of a dive, but as things moved toward the end of 2020 we began to see an upward shift in people wanting to buy a home or sell their current one. That trend lasted well into 2021, however, of the 30 busiest markets in the States, 28 recorded month-over-month decreases from April to May. With only Orlando, Florida, and Raleigh, North Carolina remaining unchanged.
This should be of no concern though. The decline in buyer activity is more than likely a result of the markets equaling itself out as inventory begins to rise once more. According to Business Wire, from a year-over-year perspective, from May 2020 to May 2021 showings increased 49.6% in the U.S. May is the one-year point in which showing activity began to pick up after the pandemic brought about its decline. The addition of new housing inventory and strong buyer activity should come as a relief to buyers and sellers alike as we head into the final quarter of 2021.
